Meet Jeff Wilcox: Eagle LA Mr. Leather 2017

Why is your current title important to you?

My current title is very important to me because it has given me a sense of security and freedom to be the man I’ve always wanted to be, which is more outgoing and shedding any fears or self-consciousness I may have. I am naturally an introverted, shy, nerdy guy who preferred to stay home and away from crowds. This was the case until I announced that I was running for Eagle LA Mr. Leather and my world changed dramatically. I have since become a much more social person, opening myself up to talk to and get to know a number of amazing people. And my hope is that I can inspire others who are also shy and introverted and show them that they can be as active and involved as they want. In addition, my title has introduced me to 9 other amazing title holders who I have the utmost respect and admiration for. Each one of them brings something to the table that none of the others bring and I am proud to be counted among them.

What do the colors of the leather pride flag mean to you?

The great thing about the leather pride flag, to me, is that its meaning can be left up to the viewer’s interpretation. Although the flag was originally meant as a placeholder until a more formal flag could be adopted by the community, I think this idea by Tony DeBlase was genius because the leather community is not bound by one or two ideals. To me, the colors of the flag represent masculinity, courage, strength and love. The leather community is wide spreading, diverse and includes everyone from the most fully involved and active leather man to the guy who enjoys wearing a harness once in a while because it makes him feel manly and sexy. Our strength comes from our diversity and inclusion of every type of fetish, kink, or sexual enjoyment there is. We are a proud community that no longer has to hide or ashamed of what they enjoy.

If somebody contacted you about visiting LA, what would be on your must see/do list?

One of the things I love most about LA is that there is something for everyone. Personally I love to take visitors to my favorite restaurants and share the cuisine LA has to offer. You can plan a whole trip around food. I’m also a big movie buff, from recent to much older films. I used to work for Paramount Pictures, so one of my favorite things to do when someone visits is take them on a tour of the Paramount Studio Lot, showing them where specific moments in cinematic history took place as well as some fun behind the scene facts that entertainment enthusiasts could really enjoy.

What is your favorite movie and why?

My all-time favorite movie is called Murder by Death. It was released in 1976 and was written by Neil Simon. The premise of the movie is “Five famous literary detective characters and their sidekicks are invited to a bizarre mansion to solve an even stranger mystery.” Think of it as a prequel to the 80’s move Clue. I love this movie because it’s filled with quick-witted jokes, a number of great actors and actresses (Eileen Brennan, Peter Sellers, Maggie Smith, Truman Capote, David Niven, Nancy Walker and Alec Guinness to name a few), and most of all because it was the movie my family enjoyed watching over and over together. Each time I watch it (usually because I’m showing it to someone) I’m reminded of how much my parents enjoyed showing it to us as kids and seeing us understand more and more of the comedy as we got older. When I watch it with someone new, I can feel some of the excitement my parents must have felt with us and it always brings me joy.

What is the funniest thing to happen to you during sex?

We’ve all had our share of odd and interesting encounters leading up to and including during sex. One incident that stands out to me (funny now, but not so much back at the time) was back in my heavier days (I used to weigh 300 lbs.) when my boyfriend at the time convinced me to bottom for the first time and to use a sling that was attached to the posts of his bed (It was a Mr. S dungeon bed). I was in the sling and we had just begun when his business partner stopped by the house to drop off some documents. My boyfriend at the time threw on shorts and ran downstairs telling me to get up and get dressed. I tried my hardest to get out of the sling but with no core strength and the sling being rather used; I was basically stuck and couldn’t get out, no matter how hard I tried rolling either way or trying to pull myself out. A few minutes later he returned to the room but he was not alone. He had expected that I had gotten up and dressed and he was going to introduce me to his business partner…unfortunately I was still naked in the sling with my legs in the air and still trying to get out. Needless to say it wasn’t the most professional of moments. But thankfully his business partner was also gay and thought the whole thing was incredibly funny. For the next few months the business partner never missed a chance to make a joke about it or remind me of it.

What do you hope to accomplish in your title year?

My goal for this year is to bring a new sense of excitement and fascination for the leather community to those who have always wanted to partake but were too afraid to join in or didn’t know where to begin. I want to show anyone interested in any aspect of the leather community that they are welcomed and we are excited to accept them whatever their kink, fetish, or enjoyment of sex may be. I know I was one of those people who wanted to enter the community without knowing how and ended up dancing around the outside for years and years until I was finally able to come in thanks to the Eagle LA Mr. Leather contest.
